HOW TO CLEAN STAINLESS STEEL NATURALLY

Remember the father in “My Big Fat Greek Wedding?” The one who was obsessed with Windex? My grandmother was kind of like that, except with Olive Oil. I didn't even know other types of oil existed for a long time.

I have an odd memory once of her polishing her sink with Olive Oil and I could never figure out what she was doing. Recently, I've seen a hack pop up everywhere to use Olive Oil to polish stainless steel. Is that what she was doing? I figured it was worth a try. Did it work? Was I happily influenced? Read on and I’ll let you know!

I'm doing this as part of my "I've Been Influenced" series. Each Friday I review a product, trend, hack, just something that influencers seem to be pinning and posting about, and I tell you if it worked out for me. I'll either be okay with the fact that I've been influenced or not happy about it. Okay, back to the refrigerator.

So before polishing, my refrigerator and stove needed a good cleaning. I didn't have plain white vinegar, but I did have white wine vinegar. I used a mixture of that and some blue dawn to clean off the surfaces. My refrigerator isn't new. We bought it used from my coworker, and even though it was in great condition when we got it, I don't clean it enough for it to ever have that bright shiny new look (just being honest here). So it needed a good scrub down.

I'm not sure if I did this next part right, but once it was dry, I used a paper towel to then rub olive oil all over the surface, the same way I would polish.

I used a dry rag to remove the excess and then buffed until it started to shine.

So did it work? Sort of. I definitely got a good shine, but I also feel like it's still showing some finger marks. It could just be me though! Would I do it again? Yes, I almost always have olive oil on hand, though I can see this getting expensive if you were doing it frequently. I think I still prefer Bar Keeper's Friend to clean stainless steel, but I do like that this is all natural, and again could work if I don't have cleaner lying around.

I've been influenced, and I'm okay with it, but don't know if I would do it all the time.
