I may or may not have told you this, but I'm getting married! I mentioned it on this blog's social media, but I'm not sure if I've actually written it on here. It is not an exaggeration to say we've been dating for quite some time. Actually remember the scene in the first SATC movie when Charlotte screams and makes the big "They've been dating for 10 years!" speech? It hasn't quite been 10 years, but it's pretty close, and that was the reaction of a lot of people we knew. Anyway, why am I telling you this? Well as the wedding is getting closer I find myself in need of some clothing for all of those "events" associated with the wedding. Since I am getting married when I'm solidly in my 30's, I really wanted to find sophisticated clothing that was still fun. I'll be doing a few of these posts but today I'm rounding up four potential outfits, two from Vici, and two from Amazon (spoiler, my favorite is less than $35). My goals for these outfits were pretty simple. Find pieces that made sense for a woman in her 30's to be wearing. Find pieces that I could wear again. Vici Love Galore button down midi dressWhy I bought it: For my engagement pictures I wanted something romantic and sophisticated. I really loved this dress because it felt breezy and summery. The high low hem gives it a little big of interest, and the sleeves and sweetheart neckline give it a romantic feel. As far as wearing it again? We are going to Italy for our honeymoon and I felt like this dress would be great to wear to dinner there. Finally, I'm a teacher and I could wear this dress to work as well. The Fit: It didn't fit as well as I hoped but not fault to Vici. I fall in between their Small and Medium sizes. I had never worn them before so I wasn't sure if they ran small or not. I had been eyeing this dress but waited too long and it sold out in the Medium so I took a gamble on the small. It fits, but the buttons pull a bit in the bust area (an easy fix) and while it's not too tight, it's more fitted than the medium would have been. That's more my personal preference as to the dress itself. Yes or No? The fit aside I am keeping it and wearing it for my engagement photos. We are taking photos in the Public Gardens in Boston and in Beacon Hill (one of my old neighborhoods and a place that I fell in love with). I think this dress fits the aesthetic I'm looking for. What to wear it with: I love that you can dress this up or down. To dress up I would pear with a cognac heeled sandle or nude stiletto. To dress down I would pear it with a flat cognac sandle and a crossbody bag. It would even be cute with a panama hat if you're on vacation. There's a lot of possibilities with this dress. Where to get it: here Amazon White JumpsuitWhy I Bought It: I knew I wanted to get a white jumpsuit. I have never (ever) found a jumpsuit that I liked. They always looked great on the rack but then bunched weirdly when I tried them on. I have long legs, but a very short torso which means jumpsuits hit in the worst possible place for me. However I wanted an alternative to dresses. I haven't decided which event I want to wear the jumpsuit for, but I like the idea of having one in rotation. I like that it can be dressed up with heels or dressed down with a denim jacket. I kept seeing a white jumpsuit online that I loved, but it was almost $300...nope, not happening. So I took a big risk. I purchased one on Amazon that looked the same in pictures but was 1/10 of the price. I figured I would get it, and it would be junk. I am so pleased to report that I was wrong! It actually was good quality for the money. I was pleasantly surprised. It fit as I felt like it would. The Fit: It was actually good (can you hear my surprise)? It didn't bunch in the lower abdominal area (hello problem spots) like most jumpsuits I've tried on do, and it was long enough for this very tall gal. In fact, it was almost too long (if you're a tall gal too, you know that this is the best feeling in the world). It will need a stitch to make the later a tiny bit shorter for me, but again that's an easy fix. I should note that it is a bit see through. I wore nude underwear and it did the trick, but it is something to be aware of. You also cannot wear a regular bra, you would need a stick on or backless bra. Yes or No? I'm definitely keeping this. It can be worn again and it's sophisticated and sexy. I'm not sure what I'm wearing it for yet, but I'm definitely going to wear it! Where to get it: here Vici Rose de Meux DressI love how this dress has lace but a little bit of an asymmetrical feel to it. It seemed "bridal" but in a flirty and fun way. I purchased this dress to wear to my bachelorette party. The Fit: I got a size medium and it fit as it should. Overall it is a beautiful dress. It's lined, good quality and the lace is lovely. It has a fun skirt to give it a little interest and the v-neck gives interest to the neck and face. I know some reviews online said it was too short, but I am 5'9 and it was an appropriate length on me. Yes or No? Ultimately I'm not keeping this one. It was a beautiful dress, I just don't think it was quite "me." It was a little bridal/ruffly for me. That may be exactly what you're looking for though and if you are, this would be a great dress for you! It really is a well made dress and would definitely be beautiful at a shower or rehearsal dinner! Where to get it: here Amazon 1920's DressWhy I bought it: My MOH sent me a link to this when I told her I wasn't having luck finding dresses. She as searching white dresses on Amazon and sent it because our theme is 1920's. The dress was $35 bucks and while I think it was intended to be a "flapper" costume, it looks nothing like that in person. It's fantastic. The Fit: The fit on this is fantastic. The material is stretchy and comfortable but it looks like a quality dress. It has embroidery and beading that don't look cheap as I feared they might at this price point from an unknown brand. The dress was fitted but not overly tight and hit at just the right spot above the knee. I do need it taken in just a bit under the arms, but that's pretty much a unique to me problem. I am really excited to wear this dress! Yes or No? This is a big yes for me. I love it. It fits great, it looks great, and it was super affordable! I can't decide what to wear it to because I want to wear it to everything! I'll update as I buy more, but hopefully you get some ideas here if you are in the market for wedding event clothing, or really just summer dresses/jumpsuit. One thing I hope you takeaway is that you don't have to spend a lot of money to get a great dress!
